The Institute for Penal Reforms took the first place for active and consequent promotion of human rights
On 12th of December 2006 in Leo Grand Conference Hall the Gala for handing awards for the most active promotion of human rights in 2006 took place. The participants at the competition were journalists, civil servants and nongovernmental organizations.
This action was organised by the Human Rights Commission of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova in partnership with UNDP Moldova in order to celebrate the International day for Human Rights commemorated annually on 10th of December.
La concurs au participat 31 jurnalisti din Balti, Chisinau, Rezina, Ribnita, Soroca, 13 organizatii neguvernamentale din Cahul, Chisinau, Ungheni si 26 de coordonatori in domeniul drepturilor omului din cadrul autoritatilor publice locale. Valoarea premiilor a constituit: premiul I – 300 USD, premiul II – 200 USD, premiul III – 100 USD.
At the competition participated 31 journalists from Balti, Chisinau, Rezina, Soroca etc., 13 nongovernmental organizations from Cahul, Chisinau and Ungheni and 26 coordinators in the field of human rights from local public administrations. The value of the awards was: I place– 300 USD, II place – 200 USD, III place– 100 USD.
The jury consisted of specialists NGO’s representatives, mass-media and journalism faculty members nominated the Institute for Penal Reforms as the most active in human rights promotion in 2006 at the category Nongovernmental Organizations.
The Institute for Penal Reforms (IRP) has participated at the competition for the most successful action in defending and promoting the human rights by presenting the results of implementing the alternatives to detention. The mission of IRP is to contribute to the human rights respect in the system of criminal justice. By promoting alternatives to detention IRP had as a goal to help the Government of the Republic of Moldova to reform the criminal justice and namely to adjust the national legislation and practice to the international norms.
The general goal of this action is to implements a functional mechanism of application of alternatives to detention in the Republic of Moldova, and its realisation will lead to the respect of rights of both people which are in conflict with law and entire community.
