The World, in which there is no Place for Torture…

The Republic of Moldova has recently ratified the Optional Protocol to UN Convention against torture and other inhuman or degrading treatments or punishments. What could this thing mean? Will we hear about fewer striking cases of torture? Will CEDO charge us no more in this line? Will we see in general the attitude towards this feudal way of obtaining evidence? Maybe.

The main actions which should be undertaken in order to fight against this phenomenon, were outlined during the conference on the 17-18th of November instant, headed "Implementing by the Republic of Moldova the provisions of the Optional Protocol to UN Convention against torture and other inhuman or degrading treatments or punishments".

The host of the event served the Press Room within the Hotel "Codru", Chisinau, 31 August 1989, no.127.

Organised by OSCE together with the Institute for Penal Reform and Amnesty International Moldova, the forum discussed the ways of elaborating a new national strategy, regarding the implementation of the present Protocol. Both national and international experts present at the conference supported the fact that in the XXI century there is no more place for torture. This "rub on the society’s skin" needs to be treated as quick as possible. A staybehind in this line ranks us in the underdeveloped world. On the other hand, if successfully implemented, the program would validate to some degree our European aspirations.
