FIRM STEPS IN IMPLEMENTING THE COMMUNITY JUSTICE
On February 6th-8th this year the conference room of the hotel “Turist” housed the republican seminar ‘The Strategy of Developing the Community Justice Centers in the Republic of Moldova”. The seminar has been organized by the Institute for Penal Reform in partnership with PRI Bucharest with the financial support of ICCO. The event has been focused on joint efforts in promoting the community security.
The initiatory campaign of the community justice centers in the territory, organized by IRP in the last years is continuing also in 2007. Today, such centers are activating in Ungheni, Cahul,Causeni, Falesti, Balti and Chisinau. They represent an important step in studying the judicial reform thoroughly.
On the work agenda of the seminar there were discussed more issues, including the problem of involving the community in settling conflicts, the re-socialization of the persons in conflict with the law and those released from prisons, the cooperation of the community with the police and other judicial bodies, the assistance in applying the sanctions alternative to detention, the strategy of the community development, being emphasized the criminal justice.
The matters were discussed by experts within the judicial reform, representatives of decision-making structures, judges, prosecutors, experts in the territory responsible of the filed – counselors for probation, psychologists, mediators, and social assistants.
